Worm Fishing Again...

So yesterday, I did something that I haven't done in a long time. I went fishing in pond that is stocked with largemouth bass and had a blast. I have been fishing major river systems and these fish are very aggressive. So my first instinct was to power fish in the pond. After about an hour I realized that these fish, aren't like river fish. Although throwing that square bill crank bait did help. Since I didn't have a boat or any electronics, I was able to get a feel for what the bottom of the pond was like with the crank bait.

While all that cranking didn't produce a fish, it did give me a good feel of what the bottom contours were like. I could feel the humps and holes in the pond. So I decided to switch to worm, and forced myself to slow down. I went with green curly tail texas rigged worm, and I started fishing the same contours. Within a few minutes I had my first bite, then another and another.

So the lesson here was... that cranking wasn't a waste of time, it was productive! I have once again have a new love for worm fishing. During this time, I hooked a bass that is well over 4 lbs, since it lives in a pond, I will be back for her!

WASP Boat Alarm

So this year at the 2011 Bass Master Classic there were plenty of new products launched. I really like the boat alarm system from WASP. Their system is wireless and uses the boat compartment handles to conceal the sensor. This video is also posted on wired2fish.com

So unless you have been under a rock or just waking up from your winter rest, the 2011 Bass Master Classic was another classic filled with first. From the use of Lowrance broadband radar in a bass boats and delayed launch times because of heavy fog. It's called the super bowl of bass fishing, this really is the best was to sum it up.

Again this year KVD showed the world that he is the best bass angler. Mark Zona calls him "King Kong" and that is the best way to describe him.

The Expo was really good this year too. There was something for everyone, even a playground for the kids. I suggest that you attend to major events every year. The iCast show and Bass Master Classic.

Power-Pole Signature Series

With the 2011 bass fishing season right around the corner,  I've added a Power-Pole Signature Series 6 foot model to my Nitro Bass Boat. I joined the Power-Pole pro staff shortly after the 2010 Bass Master Classic.

After seeing the new models coming out I knew that I should waiting for the new signature series to launch before I added one to my boat.

Having a Power-Pole shallow water anchor on your boat has become the mark of a true sport fisherman. Power-Pole has kicking it up a notch in style, form and function. The Signature Series has all the same great features of the Power-Pole Pro Series, plus enhanced features and style that will turn some heads, and it lighter weight than the Pro model.

Adding a Power-Pole to your boat can be a big undertaking, and should be installed by a professional boat mechanic. I decided to add a Bob's Machine jack plate to my Nitro and since the motor was off the boat this was the ideal time to install my Power-Pole. If you're purchasing a Power-Pole spend the extra money and get the remote control kit, this will make it super easy to use and can be deployed no matter where you are at in the boat. With the remote it also fits really nice in a Fishin Tool Bag and can be easy reached when you need it.
